In the realm of sports, Rockford
is proud home to the Rockford Icehogs, UHL hockey team. We also play
host to the Rockford Lightning, a CBA basketball team, Rockford
Raptors NISL soccer team and the Rockford Riverhawks, an exciting
minor league baseball team.
The Veteran's Memorial
Sportscore is yet another premier facility. With 104 acres, it is
devoted to soccer, softball and volleyball. It also attracts
numerous softball and soccer tournaments each year. Sportscore
features a Soccer Center that seats 100 inside and 75 more outside.
There are also 8 soccer fields, 8 lighted championship softball
fields, 9 sand volleyball courts and 2 children's play areas as well
as concessions, a fishing and boating lagoon, walking and biking
path and mile-long recreation path.
The Rockford Park
District, one of the country's most widely recognized park systems,
boasts 185 public parks encompassing over 7,000 parkland acres. In
addition, the 3,100-acre Rock Cut State Park, lying northeast of the
city, offers sailing, swimming, picnicking, camping and hiking
trails. The 6,500+ acres of the Winnebago County Forest Preserve
offer golf, camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing and nature trails.
Five challenging park
district golf courses are among 10 public courses in the area. The
district's 18-hole Aldeen Golf Club is the city's premier golf
facility and has earned a 4-star rating from Golf Digest. For the
past several years Golf Digest has also rated Rockford "Number One"
in mid-sized U.S. cities for the excellence of its public courses. |

Among other attractions is Magic Waters,
an elaborately designed water park. It features inner tube rides, 5
water slides, "Splashmagic Island," sand beach volleyball, a separate
children's pool and a wave pool.
The 150-acre Klehm Arboretum and
Botanical Garden, once a commercial nursery, offers a glimpse of
nature in its natural state. A new visitor's center, formal and theme
gardens make it a great place for a walk. The world-class Anderson
Japanese Gardens offer an elegant teahouse, waterfalls and winding
paths leading to beautiful gardens. In contrast to this is the classic
beauty of Sinnissippi Gardens, situated along the Rock River.
